The Social Fund

The Social Fund, administered by the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP), offers support to individuals with limited income who may struggle to cover sudden expenses like funeral costs. Funds are available subject to specific criteria.
Bereavement Payments

Bereavement Payments are a tax-free lump sum payment of £2,500 (if the deceased was under 65) available to individuals whose spouse or civil partner has passed away.

Eligibility criteria include the deceased's National Insurance contributions or work-related death under certain conditions.

Not available in cases of divorce, cohabitation without formal partnership, or incarceration.
Bereavement Allowance
Available to spouses or civil partners aged 45 or older, providing taxable weekly benefits for up to 52 weeks after the passing.
