What Happens on the Day of the Funeral at Mitchell Funeral Services

Before the Service

  • Preparation:

     Our staff will arrive early to prepare the venue, ensuring everything is set up according to your specifications. This includes arranging flowers, setting up any requested audio-visual equipment, and preparing the space for attendees.

  • Arrival of the Deceased:

    If the deceased is being brought from our funeral home or from the family home, our team will ensure their dignified transportation to the service venue.

  • Greeting Guests:

    Our team will be on hand to greet guests as they arrive, offering assistance and directing them to the appropriate areas.

The Service

  • Guidance from the Funeral Director:

    Gavin will be present throughout the day to provide guidance and support. He will assist in organising the procession, seating arrangements, and any other necessary details.

  • Ceremony:

    The service itself will proceed as planned, whether it is held in a church, our chapel, or another location. This may include readings, eulogies, music, and any other personal touches you have requested.

  • Carrying the Coffin:

    If family members wish to carry the coffin, they will be guided on how to do so safely. Alternatively, a wheeled bier can be used.

After the Service

  • Procession:

    Following the service, a procession will lead to the crematorium or burial site, if applicable. Our staff will ensure that this is conducted with respect and order.

  • At the Crematorium/Burial Site:

    The Funeral Director will oversee the proceedings at the crematorium or burial site, ensuring that any final wishes, such as specific music or readings, are honoured.

Post-Funeral Arrangements

  • Reception/Catering:

     If you have arranged for a reception or catering through us, we will ensure that the venue is ready and guests are welcomed. If you have chosen an independent venue, we can assist with directions and coordination.

  • Support and Follow-Up:

    After the funeral, our support doesn't end. We are available to assist with any follow-up arrangements, such as collecting donations for charities, arranging for the placement of a headstone, or any other needs you may have.
